Tantalum Tube and Pipe Description

Tantalum is a refractory metal that is ductile, easily fabricated and highly resistant to corrosion by acids. It is also a good conductor of heat, electricity and has a high melting point. It is especially resistant to chemicals at temperatures below 150 °C /302℉ and can only be dissolved with hydrofluoric acid. It has a high melting point and is able to form extremely thin and protective oxide layers for capacitors.

SSC is specialized in supplying seamless and welded tantalum tube and pipe with a variety of dimensions and shapes including round, rectangular and square. The manufacture of seamless tantalum tube and pipe is to use extrusion, tube reduction, or deep-drawing with sheet metal. The manufacturing method of welded tantalum tube and pipe is to first form a strip, then make it into a tube shape, and then weld the joint with gas tungsten arc welding.

Tantalum tube and pipe can be further processed to produce rings, washers, sleeves and sheaths.

At SSC, tube and pipe can also be produced from custom alloys for commercial and research applications and for new proprietary technologies. Other available shapes include bar or plate form, as well as custom machined shapes and through other processes such as nanoparticles and in the form of solutions and organometallics. We also produce tantalum as rod, pellets, powder, pieces, granules, ingot, wire, and in compound forms, such as oxide.

There are two methods to process tantalum and tantalum alloy tube and pipe. One is to produce seamless tube by extruding tube blank, and the other is to produce welded tube by drawing process after inert gas tungsten arc welding.

SSC provides tantalum and tantalum alloy tube and pipe including both seamless and welded types. Welded tube and pipe are made from tantalum or tantalum alloy strip and foil, welded tubes can have thin wall thickness and large OD.

Tantalum tubing with <5mm OD can also be named as tantalum capillary, this is only available for pure tantalum. We can also provide tantalum capillary with small heights, that will be tantalum marker bands.

Tailor-made tantalum alloy materials, such as tantalum tungsten alloy, tantalum niobium alloy are also available at SSC.
